| Cancale, Ille and Vilaine, department 35, close to Saint Malo on the western point of bay of the famous Mount Saint Michel, more known for his oysters, counted nearly 400 bisquines in the harbour "La Houle", the port of Cancale, at the beginning of the twentieth century. The bisquine in some figures: more than 18 meters of hull for 340 square meters of sails. The origins of the bisquine come from the golf of Gascogne (south of France - Atlantique) at the beginning of the 19th century, then years by years the biscayenne as it there was called, made followers in the ports of the Atlantic and goes up little by little in Brittany and Normandy while profiting regularly from local transformations. The major transformations take place at the end of 1800 - at the beginning of 1900 in the ports of bay of the Mount Saint Michel and mainly with Cancale in Brittany, the west of bay and Granville in Normandy in the east. Two bisquines were carried out, Granvillaise, the white one and Cancalaise, the black one. This weekend was celebrated birthday the 20 years of Cancalaise CAN87 and by the same occasion the baptism of a skiff of ness to the soft name of one of the buoys of the point of Grouin "the bunouse". 40 old boats were awaited and in spite of the ceaseless rain of this Saturday, the boats were there, they were rewarded by one Sunday very sunny morning (the morning only!). Let us recall that Granvillaise is managed by association Granvillaise and the bisquine of Cancale is managed by association Cancalaise which organize journey at sea for the public. The Cancalaise is in the harbour of Port Mer between Cancale and the point of Grouin. Here some pictures of this event more than of the bisquine, the bisquine of Cancale will be the subject of a future portrait. | |||
